Home Birth - A Documentary was filmed in Aotearoa NZ throughout 2024. It features the unique experiences of eight families birthing at home.
Produced by Porirua based midwife Sarah Dow, whos passion for home births started with her own experience as a client of Domino Midwives and the birth of her four boys. Sarah’s strong belief of birthing people making the choices that feel right for them, and the magic that unfolds when people feel safe, is what led her down the path of creating this Documentary.
Working alongside Producer and Filmmaker Issac Te Reina of Patu Productions, and funded by Central Maternity Quality and Safety Programmes, Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, has resulted in Sarah’s vision coming to life.
“I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in and supported the creation of this film. My vision, when I first contacted Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora for support, remains the same. My hope that this documentary becomes a resource for all people involved in birthing, and that whānau who are in the process of making birthing choices find it informative and inspirational. A special thank you to the families that have generously shared their stories, without them, this would not be possible.” - Sarah Dow
